ACTIVITY 4: The Rise of Nazi power
Instructions:
1.     Draw a timeline of events that lead to the Nazi Party taking control of Germany. Your time line should start with 1919 with Adolf Hitler joining the ‘German Worker’s Party’ and end 1932 with the death of President von Hindenburg.
·        Your timeline must include all significant dates which shaped the history of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust.
·        Create your timeline in word, and then copy it into “Paint”. Save it as a JPEG file and upload it onto your Blog.
2.     Explain the purpose of the Nazi Party’s Political Manifesto.
3.     Explain what the Nazi Party saw as “Aryan” people.
4.     Find FIVE pictures showing how the Nazi propaganda portrayed Aryan and non-Aryan people.
5.     List other ways how the Nazi Party brought across their ideologies to the people of Germany.

ACTIVITY 5: Nazi Propaganda
Go to a friends HSS blog and study the five propaganda pictures. Choose TWO posters to analyse.
Click on the "comments" tab and analyse the propaganda material by refering the following questions -
  • The relevance of the material
  • who are portraid in the material
  • the effectiveness (at that time period)

2.     Why did the Nazis want to kill large numbers of innocent people?

INSTRUCTIONS”
You have to produce a short “film” showing the effect of the Nazi policy on “The final solution to the Jewish question”. In your documentary you must have the following –
·         Title page
·         At least 20 pictures
·         Relevant music
·         End title page with credits
The movie must not be longer than 2 minutes.

ASSESSMENT:
You will be assessed on the following points –
Relevance of photos = 10 marks
Relevance of music = 5 marks
Creativity = 5 marks
Credits = 3 marks
Editing skills = 2 marks
Total = 25 marks

ACTIVITY 7: The Holocaust

In this activity you will be comparing martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Open the resource material and question (PDF file) on the Y-Drive, HSS file, ACTIVITY 6 file.

Work in pairs!

* One student from the pair choose ONE either Martin Luther King OR Maclom X and complete the questions.
* The other student will do the other set of questions.
* Once done, each pair must discus the questions they have done with their partner

4.     How does Pan-Africanism differ from African Nationalism?
5.     How did Kwame Nkrumah and Robert Sobukwe contribute to the Pan-African movement in Africa?
6.     Bob Marley was a Jamaican born musician whose music reflected Pan Africanist thought music and philosophy. One of his most successful songs was ‘Buffalo Soldier’.
